Success for 3 teams at the 2014 Bethesda Tournament
The Bethesda Thanksgiving tournament continues the tradition of being an extremely strong event that we’re fortunate to have right in our backyard. McLean Force ECNL, Vienna Thunder Black, and Herndon Hurricanes Black continued a strong line of performances at the event by Total Futbol teams.
McLean Force competed in Potomac Showcase Division, the highest bracket of the tournament. Their opponents on the weekend were New Jersey Rush NPL, Rage SC Blackhawks, and SAC Premier Kickers. There would be no stopping the team throughout the event, as they rolled to wins with scores of 2-0, 7-0, and 4-1. Showcase formats don’t have championship matches tied to them, so there was no championship match for the group to continue their excellent weekend.
Vienna Thunder Black moved to the Showcase format as well as U16s and they also had a flawless weekend on the score sheet. Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy, NJCSA NPL, and ISA NPL rounded out their group in the Liberty Division. Vienna got off to an excellent start to win 3-0 versus NJCSA, and followed that with a 3-2 win against Pittsburgh. The final match of the weekend would be Vienna’s best on the scoreboard, with a 4-0 win against ISA.
Herndon Hurricanes Black competed in the Patriot U12 Division and also had a strong weekend. Their bracket consisted of SOCA, Lehigh Valley, and FCV Ashburn. The Hurricanes were the only team to get two wins and stay undefeated between these four teams to pave their way to the championship match. They raced out to a 2-0 halftime advantage in the final before ultimately falling, 3-2.
Congratulations to all three teams on excellent weekends at a strong event!
