Herndon FC Elite are Finalists of Dulles Tournament

FC Elite placed 2nd in the 2014 Dulles National Tournament August 23-24.  After winning the Champion bracket a year ago, the team was moved up to the Premier bracket for this year’s edition.

Coach Merold’s boys began the weekend with a shutout win over McLean Hotspur White, finishing the match with a 2-0 score.  In the driver’s seat in the group, the boys settled for a 1-1 draw versus CYA Purple.  While not the result they were looking for, the result guaranteed them a spot in the next morning’s semifinals.

The semifinals saw FC Elite face off against ODSC Force.  The Force had gone undefeated and won their group, but FC Elite were up to the task.  Scoring twice and conceding only once, the team finished the game strong to secure their spot in the Championship.  There they would face Bethesda Blue 01, who had knocked out CYA in the other semifinal.  Sloppy play in the first half led to an 0-2 score at the break, and despite a number of quality chances in the 2nd half generated from an improved attack, the team couldn’t break the shutout and get all the way back into the game.

Moving up a bracket from the year before, the team should be proud of getting hardware for the second year in a row at their host tournament!  Congratulations, boys!
