2012 Players in College

This year saw a growing number of Total Futbol players competing collegiately.  12 players suited up for their schools this year in a fall that saw many successes for our alums.

Danielle Fitzgerald was joined at the University of Kentucky this year by former Herndon Firecat teammate Kaylee Hohein.  Danielle earned time in 9 games, starting two, while Kaylee started in 4 of the 14 games she appeared in.  The Wildcats had an excellent year, going 14-7-1.  For the second year in a row they were knocked out of the NCAA tournament by UCLA.  This year it was in the second round to a Bruins team that would go on to win the National Championship.

Jamie Kator expanded her role at Vanderbilt University, starting in 16 of the 19 games that she played.  She contributed 2 goals and 5 assists for the team.  Rachel Ivey was a large part of a James Madison team that finished the year as one of the hottest in the country, seeing time in 14 games and contributing 1 goal from her defensive position.

Madison Smith continues to excel at UMASS.  She was a starter for 19 of 20 games that she appeared in and added 3 assists to go along with her dependable defending.  Kara DeGuisto saw time in 14 games during her freshman year at Elon, starting two matches.  Genevieve Grundy was a medical redshirt during her first year at Rice University as she recovers from ankle surgery.

Meghan DiPippa and Katelyn Hurlock continued their time as teammates on the Firecats to St. Josephs University.  Meghan saw extensive time for the Hawks, starting all 18 games that she played in.  Katelyn saw action in 1 match for the team.

Cassie Smith played in 19 games while scoring 5 times and assisting on 3 others for Eastern Kentucky.  Those numbers allowed her to lead the team in goals and as a result was honored by being named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team.  Ashley Cox gained valuable experience at Slippery Rock University behind a 5th-year senior staring goalkeeper.  Allison Shomo saw action in 15 games for Shenendoah University, scoring 1 and setting up 1 while starting 4 matches as a freshman.

Overall our 12 players appeared in 143 games with 65 starts.  They accounted for 10 goals and 12 assists.  With their respective roles on their teams expected to grow and 7 more Total Futbol seniors currently committed to play next year those numbers will certainly grow.  Congratulations to everyone on a strong Fall 2013!
