Vienna Thunder Black played in the High School Premier Division 1. The division was comprised of U16-18 teams, so in some cases Black were playing against top teams two years older than them. One of those was VSA Heat Blue U18, who beat Vienna 2-0 in the opening game of the season. The team would go on a five game unbeaten run from that point, winning four and drawing once. Those results put the team in the championship game with a rematch against VSA. Vienna played a fantastic game and took the game to halftime with a 1-0 lead. VSA was able to capitalize on a couple of sloppy plays to score twice and Vienna wasn’t able to do the same on the other end. As the only U16 team in the division though, the group showed tremendously well finishing with a record of 4-2-1 and twice the number of goals scored versus conceded.
Vienna Thunder Gold competed in the High School Elite Division 1 and also had a strong U16 regular season. After opening the season with a loss, the team went on a 6-game unbeaten run where they scored 15 goals while only conceding four. They would finish with a 3-1-3 record and scored 17 goals while conceding seven on the season as a whole to finish in 2nd place.
Chantilly Fusion capped an undefeated season in U17 Division 5 with five wins and three draws. The team started strong with three wins and two draws in the opening month of the season and then won both of their games in October to set up a Championship game versus Culpeper Comets. The Comets came in with one more win than the Fusion, so to jump them the Fusion would need to win the game. It ended in a 1-1 draw, which kept the Fusion in 2nd place. This is the first time that the Fusion has finished in the top two of the division. Congratulations, girls!
The U15 age group saw both Chantilly Storm and Herndon United in Division 1. In a small division where each team played each other twice, United and Storm faced off in the final game of the season in what amounted to a championship game with both teams coming in as the top two in the division. Storm scored midway through the first half and was able to keep the shutout for the 1-0 win to seize first place. The Storm used a five game unbeaten run to close the season with a number of results not decided until the very end of games to surge to the top of the standings. Congratulations to both teams for finishing as the top two teams in U15.
Herndon Crossfire moved to the full field with their transition to U13 and the group had an excellent first season on the larger space. Unbeaten in their first 5 games put them towards the top of the division. They would get another win and a draw to close the season after a mid-season loss, and those results placed the group in 2nd place in U13 Division 5R. Their final record was 5-1-2 with almost a 3:1 scoring ratio, finishing with 20 goals for and just seven against.
Herndon Hurricanes Black had their first season of publicized results and it couldn’t have gone much better for the group. Two of their first four contests were close results, with 1-0 and 3-2 results bookending a pair of lopsided games in-between. The team would cruise through their final four games, scoring 38 times and only conceding once. The final results for the season saw the team finish with a perfect 8-0-0 record, 56 goals scored, and just five conceded. Congratulations on a fantastic season!
